Level 1 Registered Nurse - Psychiatric Emergency Room

4x12.0 - Straight Nights, with availability for Holidays/On-Call/Callback/Charge as needed.

Job Description

The Level 1 Registered Nurse in the Psychiatric Emergency Room will conduct intake assessments and provide nursing care for patients facing emotional disturbances. This role requires collaboration with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff to develop effective treatment plans. The nurse will be responsible for administering medications, documenting patient information, and maintaining a safe environment for staff and patients.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history.
• Plan and provide nursing care for patients, making thorough nursing diagnoses.
• Consult with psychiatrists and behavioral health staff for treatment plan development.
• Administer psychotropic medications and document reactions and effectiveness.
• Provide educational support to clients regarding their emotional disturbances and the necessity of treatment.
• Assess vital signs and manage treatment of pain as needed.
• Ensure accurate documentation of patient information in medical charts.
• Perform administrative tasks as necessary, including maintaining records and responding to service requests.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Must possess a valid New York RN License.
• BLS Certification from the American Heart Association is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in a relevant nursing position.
