Respiratory Therapist

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care through intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, all while operating within their professional licensure with minimal supervision. This role requires evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, and educating patients about their treatments and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patient conditions and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
• Explain the purpose and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients.
• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments operating various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance and ensure adequate suctioning using various methods.
• Monitor patients through oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Review chest X-rays regularly for further evaluations.
• Conduct pulmonary function studies and assist in respiratory care-related procedures.
• Perform tracheostomy and endotracheal tube care, including insertion and removal.
• Record treatment details and patient responses in respiratory care records and patient charts.
• Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency.
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation as per BLS and ACLS guidelines.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Experience in ventilator weaning and operating ventilatory equipment.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Schedule

This position operates on a Night 3x12.0 schedule.
