Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Medical Surgical unit for a 13-week contract position. In this role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to a diverse patient population that includes post-operative orthopedic, neurological, and general surgical patients. You will work closely with a collaborative medical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a 52-bed medical surgical unit.
• Manage a patient ratio of 1:6-7, primarily 1:7 on nights.
• Administer medications and monitor patient vitals.
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams for patient assessments and care planning.
• Assist with the orientation and training of new staff as needed.
• Utilize electronic health record system (Allscripts) for documentation.
• Participate in ongoing education and competency assessments.

Schedule

This position requires 12-hour night shifts, with weekends as scheduled. The shifts are from 1845 to 0715. Staff are allowed to submit up to 6 requests off per 6-week schedule.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• BLS (AHA) certification is required.
• NIHSS certification is required.
• ACLS certification is a PLUS.
• Experience in medical surgical nursing, preferably with orthopedic and post-operative care.
