Registered Nurse - Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Shifts vary between 8, 10, and 12 hours and can include Days, Evenings, Nights, and Weekends/Holidays. There is no guarantee of hours or shift preference. On-call shifts may be required 0-3 times per month (8-hour night shifts and 24-hour shifts on weekends/holidays).

Job Description

The PACU Registered Nurse provides care for patients in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, demonstrating advanced knowledge of anesthesiology and patient assessment. Responsibilities include monitoring patients post-surgery, assessing incision sites, tracking body temperature, and managing indicators of stability or complications.

Responsibilities

• Care for patients in pre-op, Phase I, and Phase II recovery
• Monitor vital signs and assess post-operative conditions
• Communicate effectively with the healthcare team
• Prepare and educate patients and families for the recovery process
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• 2+ years of experience as a critical care RN (ER & ICU experience may be accepted in place of PACU experience)
• Valid BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association
• A valid professional license within the state of Hawaii is required prior to the start of the assignment
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) credential is recommended
• Other specialty-related certifications (e.g., NIHSS, TNCC) may be required
