Job Description

Under the general direction of a physician and by prescription, the Registered Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory therapy services and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. Responsibilities encompass all patient populations and service areas.

Responsibilities

• Reads prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and treatment requirements.
• Determines the most suitable method of administering inhalants, observes precautions, and makes modifications as needed.
• Evaluates the appropriateness of medical orders and interprets clinical data to optimize patient clinical objectives.
• Sets up and operates medical devices, including mechanical ventilators and aerosol generators.
• Monitors and adjusts equipment to ensure optimum therapeutic results and safety.
• Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment for proper function.
• Monitors patient's physiological responses and performs necessary assessments.
• Assists in performing breathing exercises and pulmonary function tests.
• Consults with physicians in the event of adverse reactions and maintains accurate patient charts.
• Assists in transporting mechanically ventilated patients and responds to emergency code situations.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Graduate of a CoARC approved Respiratory program required.
• 2 years of experience is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RTT) certification.
• State License in the respective state.
• NRP may be required for certain facilities.
• Compliance with PA Act 31, 33, 34, and 73 required.
