Registered Nurse (RN) - Psychiatric Emergency Room

Schedule

This position involves a straight night schedule, with additional responsibilities for holidays, on-call, callback, and charge duties as needed. The role requires a commitment of 48 hours per week.

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Psychiatric Emergency Room will conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and their relatives to gather comprehensive case history. The RN will also play a critical role in planning and providing nursing care, making nursing diagnoses regarding the medical and emotional status of patients, and recommending appropriate treatment options.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments with patients and relatives to gather case history.
• Plan and provide nursing care to patients.
• Make nursing diagnoses of medical and emotional status and recommend treatment options.
• Consult with psychiatrists and behavioral health staff to design treatment plans.
• Administer medications, including psychotropic drugs, and monitor patient reactions.
• Arrange further medical attention when necessary.
• Assist patients in understanding emotional disturbances and the need for treatment.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for both staff and patients.
• Document all patient information accurately on medical charts and follow physician orders.
• Perform administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, and inputting progress notes into the computer system.
• Provide high-quality service to patients and the public, responding to requests for service or making appropriate referrals.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Must hold a valid NY RN License.
• BLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required.
• Telemetry experience is a plus but not required.
