Emergency Department Registered Nurse

Schedule

This position involves a variable shift schedule, with three 12-hour shifts per week, including daytime and nighttime hours, as well as weekend shifts. There will also be two on-call shifts per four weeks, accommodating emergency department coverage.

Job Description

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) applies a comprehensive understanding of nursing theory, technical skills, and effective communication to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients and their families. The ED RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, identifying urgent or emergent care priorities, and delivering direct care according to evidence-based interventions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial assessments and triage patients, using ESI training standards to prioritize care.
• Perform primary assessments recognizing critical needs, documenting deviations from norms, and identifying required interventions.
• Offer patient and family education concerning post-emergency care requirements to ensure continued recovery.
• Maintain effective communication with patients and families, providing updates and addressing comfort needs.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to foster mutual respect and cooperation for optimal patient outcomes.
• Utilize relationship-based care principles to alleviate anxiety and promote a healing environment.
• Document patient progress and reassess their conditions to adjust care plans as necessary.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Must hold an active RN license in the state of practice.
• Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse, with a minimum of one year in an Emergency Department setting.
• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Stroke Certification (must meet AHA or RQI standards).
