Pediatric X-Ray Technologist
Schedule
Monday - Friday: 8am - 4:30pm; on call/callback/holidays per unit needs (2-3 call shifts per month).
Job Description
The Pediatric X-Ray Technologist is responsible for performing radiographic procedures to ensure accurate diagnostic imaging of pediatric patients. The role includes verifying patient identities, explaining procedures, positioning patients, and ensuring the proper use of radiologic equipment.
Responsibilities
- Verify patients' identity and review physicians' orders before x-ray procedures.
- Utilize x-ray equipment to produce high-quality radiographic images as directed by physicians.
- Explain x-ray procedures to patients and address any questions or concerns.
- Position patients for imaging, which may involve lifting or moving patients with limited mobility.
- Ensure safe and proper handling of all radiologic equipment while maintaining low radiation doses.
- Observe and interpret patient status to meet age-specific needs.
- Produce diagnostic images for interpretation by the Radiologist.
- Notify management of any damaged or malfunctioning x-ray equipment.
- Utilize electronic patient information systems to verify patient details and special exam comments.
- Maintain accurate patient record keeping, including proper identification and transmission of images to the PACS system.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
- Current Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- New York State license (or ability to obtain prior to starting).
- Minimum of two years of X-ray Technologist experience, with at least one year in a Level 1 trauma center.
- Ability to lift or move patients and stand for extended periods.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and effective communication abilities.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Documentation of experience in pediatric fluoroscopy exams and NICU portables.
