Job Description
The MRI technologist demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, contrast agents, MRI safety, and medical terminology. This role requires maintaining a high degree of accuracy in positioning and technique while performing MRI procedures according to established protocols to obtain diagnostic information as ordered by the physician.
The technologist prepares and administers contrast at the direction of the radiologist in accordance with state and federal guidelines and ensures the delivery of quality care in a safe environment for patients ranging from infants to adults. Sensitivity to the physical, cultural, and emotional needs of patients is paramount, achieved through effective communication, patient assessment, monitoring, and care skills, all executed in a non-judgmental and nondiscriminatory manner.
Engagement in continuing education to enhance patient care, public education, knowledge, and technical competence is encouraged, fostering a culture of lifelong learning. The MRI technologist must exercise independent, professional, and ethical judgment alongside critical thinking in the performance of duties.
Responsibilities
- Perform MRI procedures as per established protocols and physician orders
- Maintain accuracy in patient positioning and imaging techniques
- Prepare and administer contrast agents under the direction of a radiologist
- Ensure patient safety and care across diverse age groups
- Communicate effectively with patients, addressing their physical, cultural, and emotional needs
- Engage in continuing education for professional development and patient care enhancement
- Utilize critical thinking and ethical judgment in all activities
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
- Non-Degree Program from an approved AMA Radiologic Technology program or MRI certificate program Required
- General Experience Relevant to MRI Technologist role Required
- Registered Technologist (R) (MR) License Required
- Basic Life Support Certification Required
