Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing timely and reliable respiratory therapy services to inpatients, outpatients, and community groups as needed. This role requires critical care experience and expertise in various respiratory therapy procedures.

Responsibilities

• Administer respiratory therapy procedures as directed by the manager.
• Perform aerosol therapy treatments, secretion mobilization therapy, incentive spirometry therapy, and M.D.I. therapy.
• Conduct suctioning and extubation procedures; manage oxygen therapy and oxygen tank safety.
• Oversee BiPAP-CPAP therapy and alarms, high flow cannula/humidifier therapy, and cough assist/vest therapy.
• Administer pulmonary function screening, fit testing, and pulse oximetry procedures.
• Manage mechanical ventilation and ventilator alarms.
• Perform arterial puncture and analysis for blood gas laboratory; conduct quality control for the blood gas laboratory.
• Manage patient healthcare information and medication administration systems.
• Record and report results of all procedures accurately.
• Participate in departmental in-service programs and perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Up to three (3) years of experience in critical care.
• Graduation from an accredited School for Respiratory Therapy.
• Current New York State Respiratory Therapy Permit or License.
• Credentialed by the NBRC as a Respiratory Therapist.
• BLS and ACLS Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Preferred experience in NICU and V60 BiPAP/980 Puritan Bennett Ventilators.
