Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport within the facility as medically prescribed. This role involves evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, and educating patients upon discharge. The therapist conducts a variety of routine treatments using both invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation to patients.

Responsibilities

• Perform chest physiotherapy and operate equipment to promote secretion clearance.
• Conduct suctioning methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal) as needed.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Review patient's chest x-rays and determine the need for further evaluation.
• Perform 12-Lead EKG and recognize basic arrhythmias.
• Conduct pulmonary function studies and assist with procedures related to respiratory care.
• Provide tracheostomy care, including the insertion and removal of tubes.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor, record, and report test results.
• Engage in cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Set up, self-test, operate, maintain, and monitor various mechanical ventilators.
• Communicate with physicians regarding patient responses to therapies and document patient care accurately.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Valid Respiratory Therapy License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Experience with pediatric and adult populations preferred.
