Job Description

As a Surgical Technologist, you will perform a variety of tasks in the operating room to assist the surgical team. Your duties will include arranging sterile setups for surgical procedures and passing instruments and supplies to surgeons and their assistants.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions.
• Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment and ensure all equipment is functioning properly.
• Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and maintaining aseptic incision sites.
• Transport and position patients on the operating table as necessary.
• Assist the surgical team with donning sterile gowns and gloves.
• Pass instruments and sterile supplies during surgery and assist in holding retractors, cutting sutures, and sponging the operative site.
• Count sponges, needles, and other supplies accurately.
• Assist in the care and handling of specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Label and hand medications to the surgeon under established policies and procedures.
• Transfer patients to the recovery room post-surgery and clean/restock the operating room.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment consistent with aseptic techniques.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC) preferred.
• Must have completed a program sponsored by a nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation, military training, or be employed in the field prior to specific legislative dates.
• Compliance with PA Acts 31, 33, 34, and 73.
