Respiratory Therapist - Night Shift

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, offering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as prescribed, within the professional scope and with minimal supervision. The role involves evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, explaining procedures and equipment to patients, and providing education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory and oxygen devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Carry out suctioning of patients through oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography per policy.
• Review patient chest x-rays for further evaluation.
• Conduct 12-Lead EKGs and recognize basic arrhythmias.
• Perform pulmonary function studies as per policy.
• Assist with respiratory care procedures, including bronchoscopy and chest tube placements.
• Manage tracheostomy care and arterial punctures according to policy.
• Conduct CPR according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Set up and maintain mechanical ventilation on various equipment.
• Document treatments and patient responses in respiratory care records.
• Communicate with healthcare providers regarding patient therapy efficiency.
• Maintain accurate therapy charging and data entry.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Ventilator weaning experience is essential.
• Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.

Schedule

This position operates on a night shift, working 3x12 hour shifts per week.
