Job Description

Under the direction of a radiation oncologist, delivers radiation treatments to patients as prescribed and obtains localization images according to planned treatment delivery. Assists in the administration of contrast agents used during treatment localization, performs measurements for treatment calculations, and documents data acquired during the simulation procedure.

Responsibilities

• Performs treatment, simulation, and fabrication of immobilization devices and shielding.
• Completes measurements for treatment calculations and documents simulation data accurately.
• Follows departmental procedures for patient safety and treatment administration.
• Recognizes and reports deviations from prescribed treatment delivery.
• Ensures quality of treatment delivery through accurate documentation.
• Takes portal images to assure quality and consistency of treatment portal placement.
• Explains treatment procedures to patients and families, responding effectively to their concerns.
• Observes patients for reactions to treatments and communicates findings to staff.
• Maintains a safe, orderly treatment room and understands necessary information systems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Completion of a formal radiation therapy technology program in a JRCERT-accredited institution.
• 2 years of experience required.
• ARRT Certification required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• PA Act 31, PA Act 33, PA Act 34, and PA Act 73 clearances are needed.
