Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, performing intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision. The role includes evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, as well as educating patients prior to discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, invasive and non-invasive devices, oxygen systems, and aerosol devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance and suctioning via multiple methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Review patient chest x-rays to assess need for further evaluation.
• Perform 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Assist with procedures related to respiratory care, including Bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Administer tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Perform arterial puncture and determine efficiency of ventilation, including monitoring and reporting results.
• Execute laboratory testing in accordance with policies, ensuring proper specimen handling and documentation.
• Conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Perform endotracheal tube insertion and removal using appropriate techniques and equipment.
• Maintain ventilatory equipment and assist in its preventative maintenance and repair.
• Document all pertinent treatment information and patient responses on care records.
• Communicate with physicians regarding therapy efficiency and participate in shift-to-shift reporting.
• Ensure accurate respiratory therapy charging through data entry and error verification.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist is required. Candidates must possess competencies in the areas listed above and adhere to clinical policies and procedures.
