Registered Nurse - Observation Unit

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Shift: 3x12.0 - Rotating shifts including Days, Evenings, Nights, Holidays, and Weekends as needed.

Job Description

The Observation unit cares for adult patients needing additional observation to determine if the patient's condition is serious enough for admission to the hospital or if the patient can be treated and released home safely. This fast-paced environment typically manages 20 to 27 patients per day, with an average length of stay of 27 hours. The unit is staffed with 24/7 provider coverage and provides care for a diverse adult population of both emergency observation and admitted boarding patients.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a busy observation setting.
• Monitor patients' conditions and provide timely interventions as needed.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to determine care plans.
• Document patient assessments and care in compliance with healthcare regulations.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• RN License (New York State ONLY)
• Two years of Med/Surg experience required
• Telemetry experience required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association ONLY
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA ONLY
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
