PACU Nurse (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Shifts vary between 8, 10, and 12 hours and can include Days, Evenings, Nights, and Weekends/Holidays. On-call shifts may be required 0-3 times per month.

Job Description

The PACU Nurse provides critical care to patients in the post-anesthesia recovery phase. This role involves monitoring patients post-surgery, ensuring their stability, assessing incision sites, and reacting swiftly to any complications that arise. Ideal candidates possess advanced knowledge of anesthesiology and possess a strong ability to think critically in high-pressure situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to patients in the post-anesthesia recovery phase.
• Monitor vital signs, assess incision sites, and track stability indicators.
• Provide support to patients and families during recovery.
• Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure seamless patient transitions.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• 2+ years of experience as a critical care RN (e.g., ER or ICU) may be accepted as a substitute for specific PACU experience.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• A valid professional nursing license in Hawaii is required prior to the start date.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is recommended; other specialty-related certifications like NIHSS & TNCC are preferred.
