Respiratory Therapist - Float to Milwaukee, West Allis

Night shift, 3 days per week, 12 hours per shift.

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by administering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed. This role includes evaluating patients and formulating treatment plans, explaining procedures and treatments to patients, and offering necessary education upon patient discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol devices, and nebulizers for medication delivery.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning to promote secretion clearance.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Review patient chest x-rays and perform pulmonary function studies as per policy.
• Assist with respiratory care procedures including bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, and tracheostomy care.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency.
• Support laboratory policies related to specimen handling and documentation as applicable.
• Carry out cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Document all treatments and patient responses accurately.
• Communicate effectively with physicians concerning therapy efficiency and collaborate during shift hand-off communication.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
• Experience with ventilatory equipment operation and patient care procedures in a clinical setting.
