Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical and Senior Transitions Unit

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Rotating shifts: Day 3x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:00) and Night 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:00), with every other weekend and holiday coverage required.

Job Description

As a Registered Nurse, you will provide care in a dynamic environment, rotating between the Medical Surgical unit and the Senior Transitions Unit (STU). The STU is a locked medical geriatric psychiatric unit for patients aged 55 and above, focusing on psychiatric assistance, medication adjustments, and safe discharge planning.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care in accordance with established protocols.
• Assist with psychiatric assessments and medication management in the Senior Transitions Unit.
• Participate in safe discharge planning for geriatric patients.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, physical therapists, and pharmacists.
• Monitor patient vital signs and manage IV medication administration.
• Conduct assessments to ensure patient safety and care quality.
• Support with admission procedures and patient/family education.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• A minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar nursing role.
• PA or Compact nursing license required.
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications are mandatory.
• Charge experience preferred.
• Experience with charting systems, preferably Cerner, is an asset.
