Registered Nurse - Maternal and Newborn Care
Schedule
This position requires night shifts, with 4 (12) hour shifts within a pay period, including every other weekend from 7 PM to 7:30 AM.
Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) position provides quality nursing care for maternal and newborn patients. This role involves cooperation with other professional staff to ensure services that reflect the caring philosophy of the hospital. The OB RN will also cross-train and care for Med Surg/EICU patients when needed.
Responsibilities
- Complete initial nursing histories, assess patients' conditions, and develop individual care plans.
- Triage patient care based on presenting or expressed symptoms.
- Accurately administer medications.
- Assess labor progression and manage induction of labor and cervical ripening.
- Effectively manage medical emergencies including prolapsed cord, breech delivery, and postpartum hemorrhage.
- Perform and accurately interpret fetal heart monitoring.
- Address pregnancy-related concerns such as hypertension and diabetes.
- Assess the condition of newborns and recognize situations requiring heightened surveillance.
- Perform neonatal resuscitation within scope of practice and certification.
- Monitor newborns for adverse events like hypoglycemia, hypothermia, and jaundice.
- Promote patient education and involvement in the care of newborns.
- Identify and alert the provider about patient status changes appropriately and promptly.
- Communicate effectively with the patient's care team.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Two-year degree in nursing required; four-year degree preferred.
- Must hold and maintain a Wisconsin Registered Nursing license.
- AHA BLS certification within 1 month of hire.
- NRP certification within 6 months of hire.
- ALSO certification within 1 year of hire.
- STABLE certification within 1 year of hire.
- Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification within 1 year of hire.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail are required.
