Ultrasound Technologist
Job Description
Under the supervision of the ultrasound supervisor, assists the radiologist and other physicians in achieving scans and films to facilitate a diagnosis for patients receiving an ultrasound exam or sonogram. Capable of providing patient care activities, including adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients, while ensuring the proper utilization of the Radiology Information System as described in the RIS Policy and Procedures.
Responsibilities
- Participates in and implements age-specific care and interaction.
- Completes all assigned work, tasks, and duties before clocking out and leaving.
- Provides basic patient care and comfort; anticipates patient needs and establishes rapport with patients and families.
- Explains procedures to patients and families to gain their trust.
- Instructs patients on positioning and breathing techniques to optimize exams.
- Identifies life-threatening situations and carries out emergency care as allowed by procedures.
- Transports patients to and from the ultrasound department as needed.
- Obtains, reviews, and correlates pertinent patient history and clinical data to facilitate optimal diagnostic results.
- Performs ultrasound exams utilizing proper established procedures.
- Evaluates and documents equipment performance, maintenance, and necessary repairs.
- Maintains infection control and adheres to universal precautions when performing ultrasound procedures.
- Maintains ultrasound lab and stocks necessary materials required for procedures.
- Confirms two forms of patient identification before performing ultrasound examinations.
- Attends continuing education to reinforce and update knowledge base.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Meets requirements for registry by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
- Six months of experience preferred in performing ultrasound exams and must be registry eligible.

Friday to Monday, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
