Surgical Technologist

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

8-hour shifts Monday through Friday; shifts are available at 0630-1500, 0900-1730, and/or 1100-1930. Call opportunity available, but not required.

Job Description

Responsible to the Director, Surgical Services, Manager, OR and PACU, and/or designee for overall practice. The Surgical Technologist functions under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor and circulating nurse to provide overall support in the Operating Room according to AORN Standards of Practice, Principles of Asepsis, and Operating Room Policies and Procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the delivery of patient care in the Operating Room.
• Establish and maintain a sterile field, performing gowning, gloving, and surgical scrubbing as per policies.
• Prepare and maintain sterile and unsterile supplies.
• Check sutures and supplies, assisting with the case set-up.
• Perform sharps, sponge, and instrument counts.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon to expedite procedures.
• Adhere to Standard Precautions and Infection Control Policies.
• Demonstrate knowledge of equipment and instruments used in surgical procedures.
• Recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• High School Education or equivalent.
• Completion of a Surgical Technologist program accredited by a recognized entity or military training.
• A minimum of three years operating room experience preferred.
• Preferably a background in Cesarean Sections, Orthopedic, General, and Vascular surgeries.
• Maintains required Surgical Technologist certification and BLS certification.
