Registered Respiratory Therapist I

Job Description

The Registered Respiratory Therapist I (RT-I) is responsible for performing respiratory therapy procedures, cardio-respiratory diagnostics, and patient assessment under the direction of a licensed physician. The RT-I will assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders while supervising respiratory therapy technicians and setting the standard for respiratory care modalities.

Responsibilities

• Initiate and carry out therapeutic procedures for respiratory care.
• Maintain comprehensive patient records, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
• Select, assemble, check, and operate respiratory therapy equipment.
• Assess patients' respiratory status and implement appropriate treatment plans.
• Supervise respiratory therapy technicians in the delivery of care.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Active NY State Respiratory Therapist License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist in an academic medical center environment.
• Experience in both pediatric and adult critical care settings is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with emergency department procedures and neonatal patient management is a plus.

Schedule

This position requires a shift from 7 PM to 7:30 AM.
