Job Description

This position requires a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist specializing in Blood Banking. Responsibilities include performing routine and complex laboratory procedures, testing patient specimens, ensuring quality control, and maintaining laboratory equipment. The role emphasizes exceptional transfusion service skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform all routine and complicated laboratory procedures in compliance with established competencies.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation, ensuring timely repairs and maintenance.
• Cross-train in other laboratory sections as needed to support departmental needs.
• Monitor and adhere to the laboratory's quality control program.
• Accurately calculate, enter, and verify laboratory results using the Laboratory Information System.
• Process and handle patient specimens, ensuring adherence to specimen volume requirements.
• Participate in the evaluation and development of new testing procedures and protocols.
• Adapt patient care methods to accommodate unique physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs.
• Complete all compliance and regulatory tasks and follow established policies and procedures.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant scientific field or equivalent laboratory training.
• No experience required for graduates from an approved clinical laboratory training program, or one year of approved clinical experience.
• Must possess relevant certification (MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT) from an accredited body.
• New graduates must be Board Certified or eligible for certification within one year of hire.
