Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

Schedule

Shift: 5:45 PM - 6:00 AM, 2 out of 3 weekends required, with block scheduling available. This is a 13-week contract position.

Job Description

The Registered Nurse manages, organizes, and administers nursing care for patients of all ages under the supervision of a physician. Compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws as well as healthcare policies is a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assess data regarding the patient's physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs based on age and development.
• Report and document all observed symptoms, reactions, and changes in the patient's condition.
• Utilize the nursing process to direct and deliver patient care. Develop, implement, revise, and evaluate a formal plan of care.
• Administer medications using the "Five Rights of Medication Administration".
• Provide educational information to patients and/or their families appropriate for age and learning abilities.
• Create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients, families, and visitors.
• Organize and prioritize daily assignments to provide optimal patient care.
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality at all times.
• Comply with healthcare Code of Conduct.
• For those serving in a Charge Nurse capacity:
• Assign licensed and non-licensed staff according to patient needs and staff skill levels.
• Coach staff to improve problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Identify opportunities to improve performance and participate in performance improvement teams.
• Recognize life-threatening patient complications and respond immediately.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Bachelor's degree (B.S.N.), Associate's degree (A.D.N.), or Diploma from an accredited college of nursing.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required for Obstetrics Department assignment.
