Job Description
The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge through the use of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards. This includes the nursing process through assessment of patient needs, development of the plan of care to meet those needs, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluations of patient care outcomes for the neonate through geriatric age population. The position is subject to scheduled on-call assignments as needed, due to community event influence on Emergency Department patient volumes.
Responsibilities
- Triage every patient entering the emergency care system and determine priorities of care based on physical and psycho-social needs and factors influencing patient flow.
- Develop and implement a plan of care based on ongoing assessments, ensuring that supplies and equipment for the care of emergency patients are readily available and in working order.
- Manage complications and emergencies per medical center policies and procedures and ENA standards.
- Recognize changes in patient health status and direct appropriate care to ensure patient safety.
- Document and act on patient responses to interventions to facilitate competent medical care.
- Educate patients and families on treatment prior to initiation and assist with accurate information on health status and referrals.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, renewed every two years.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, renewed every two years.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, renewed every two years.
- Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
