Job Description

This position cares for patients before, during, and after angiography, interventional, angiographic cardiac catheterization procedures, and other diagnostic testing and procedures. Responsibilities include pre-procedure assessment, pre-medication, documentation of the cath process, post-cath care, and patient education. The nurse will scrub in for procedures and assist other members of the cardiac catheterization laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Performs nursing care of the catheterization/angiography cardiovascular patient, conducting other cardiac diagnostic nursing procedures according to department protocol.
• Assists in various cardiac diagnostic procedures, including stress echocardiograms and routine treadmill exams.
• Evaluates and screens patients for safety prior to performing testing and provides sedation monitoring as per hospital policy.
• Inserts PICC lines and functions as a vascular access expert to meet patients' needs.
• Operates and manages equipment and supplies pertinent to cardiology procedures including IV pumps and defibrillators.
• Records all relevant information on appropriate data sheets and develops cardiovascular education materials and programs.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Cath Lab RN Experience: Required
• 1+ Years of experience in Electrophysiology: Required
• Interventional Radiology experience: Preferred
• Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation: Preferred
• Knowledge of operation of intraaortic balloon pump: Preferred
• State Licenses: Active Michigan/MILicense required
• Active American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications: Required
