Pediatric X-Ray Technologist

Monday - Friday: 8am - 4:30pm; on call/callback/holidays per unit needs

Job Description

The Pediatric X-Ray Technologist will be responsible for performing radiographic imaging of pediatric patients. This role includes patient verification, operation of x-ray equipment, patient positioning, and maintenance of accurate patient records.

Responsibilities

  • Verify patients' identities and review physicians' orders before beginning procedures.
  • Operate x-ray equipment to take images of patients' bones, tissues, and organs per physician's orders.
  • Explain x-ray procedures to patients and answer any questions they may have.
  • Position patients accordingly, including lifting and moving patients with limited mobility.
  • Ensure the safe handling of radiologic equipment while minimizing patient exposure to radiation.
  • Observe each patient's status and interpret the necessary information based on age-specific needs.
  • Produce high-quality diagnostic images for interpretation by radiologists.
  • Notify management of any damaged or malfunctioning x-ray equipment.
  • Utilize electronic patient information systems to maintain accurate records and assure images are sent correctly to the PACS system.
  • Practice the dual patient identifier procedure.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

  • Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • New York State license (or able to obtain prior to starting).
  • A minimum of two years of experience as an X-ray Technologist, including experience at a Level 1 trauma center.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum one year of pediatric experience and one year of trauma center experience.
  • Ability to report within 30 minutes to an on-call shift.
