Medical-Surgical Float Pool Nurse

Job Description

The Med Surg Float Pool nurse provides comprehensive patient care across multiple medical-surgical units, adapting quickly to varying patient populations and unit workflows. Nurses are expected to function independently, demonstrate strong clinical judgment, and uphold all hospital policies and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care across all inpatient Medical-Surgical units, step down, and ED (for med surg holds).
• Adapt to varying patient populations and unit workflows.
• Demonstrate strong clinical judgment while functioning independently.
• Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, including attendance, documentation standards, and medication safety protocols.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Minimum of 2 years of Med Surg experience required.
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHHS.
• Strong proficiency in EPIC required.
• Ability to float between multiple units is necessary.

Schedule

This position requires a 12-hour AM shift, every other weekend, and agency staff are not scheduled on holidays. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4 on standard Med Surg units, with variations based on unit acuity and staffing.
