Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by offering intensive respiratory support and transporting patients within the facility, as prescribed. The therapist evaluates patients and recommends appropriate treatment plans, explaining the purpose and procedures associated with treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, and provides necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Conduct suctioning procedures via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography in accordance with policy.
• Review patient's chest x-rays to assess the need for further evaluation.
• Perform pulmonary function studies and assist with respiratory procedures.
• Ensure adequate drainage of the chest via PleurX catheter when applicable.
• Administer tracheostomy care, including tube insertion and removal.
• Conduct arterial puncture and determine ventilation efficiency.
• Perform BLS and ACLS compliant cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Manage mechanical ventilation setup and maintenance, ensuring proper operation and monitoring of various equipment.
• Document treatment information and patient responses on therapy records and patient charts.
• Communicate effectively with the healthcare team regarding therapy efficiency and patient status.
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charges, correcting any errors as necessary.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current Respiratory Therapist license.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
• Experience in performing respiratory therapy procedures.
