Job Description

The Surgical Technician assists with surgical procedures, focusing on scrubbing duties. This role is responsible for preparing for procedures and assisting the operative team, including preparation and maintenance of sterile supplies.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a sterile field.
• Inspect sterile items for contamination before opening.
• Anticipate the need for equipment and supplies before the case begins.
• Ensure all equipment is functioning before use.
• Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and air-powered equipment according to manufacturer's instructions.
• Scrub all surgical procedures and recognize the special needs, techniques, and requirements of individual surgeons.
• Assist RN with completion of operative charge and recording of hardware used during procedures.
• Collect specimens and cultures by verifying source and correct tissue identification with the surgeon.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• High school diploma required.
• One year experience in operating room as a Surgical Technician or training required.
• Certification or eligibility for certification preferred.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification required.
