Job Description

Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Interventional Radiology Technologist specializes in the performance of invasive procedures to assist in the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician.

Responsibilities

• Explain examination procedures to patients and prepare them for examinations.
• Obtain additional medical history as necessary.
• Prepare prescribed contrast media, medications, and IV solutions for administration.
• Assist the Radiologist in performing complex diagnostic invasive procedures.
• Set up sterile equipment, physiological monitors, pressure injectors, and imaging equipment required for procedures.
• Ensure adequate supplies are available and properly stored.
• Assess patient conditions before, during, and following procedures.
• Control equipment to obtain proper diagnostic information.
• Train new personnel and students as assigned.
• Promote radiation safety principles during imaging procedures.
• Resolve image exceptions and ensure high-quality image delivery into PACS.
• Complete study indexing in the Radiology Information System.
• Perform Quality Assurance procedures and maintain accurate documentation.
• Utilize independent judgment in imaging techniques and patient safety practices.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Minimum of 3 years previous experience in a Trauma Level 1 facility.
• Cath Lab experience is required.
• BLS and ARRT certifications are mandatory.
• Must maintain required hours of continuing medical education.
• Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) with advanced registry in one of the following:
  • Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI)
  • Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI)
  • Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV)
