Respiratory Therapist

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, offering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed. Within their scope of professional license and with minimal supervision, they evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans. They also explain treatment procedures and provide education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, and aerosol devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Conduct suctioning by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal).
• Monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Review patient chest x-rays to determine further evaluation needs.
• Perform 12-Lead EKG and recognize basic arrhythmias.
• Assist with pulmonary function studies and respiratory care procedures.
• Perform tracheostomy care, including tube insertion and removal.
• Perform arterial puncture and assess ventilation efficiency.
• Follow policies and procedures for laboratory testing and specimen handling.
• Conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Document treatment details and communicate patient responses to physicians.
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging and documentation.

Schedule

This position offers a night shift of 3x12.0 hours, primarily from 1 PM to 9 PM, five days a week.

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.
