Registered Nurse - Med/Surg

Schedule

This is a full-time position with shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Weekend and on-call requirements include 2 to 4 shifts per month, rotated among staff.

Job Description

The Registered Nurse is a clinical practitioner responsible for coordinating and implementing patient care specific to the age of the patient population served in the assigned units. The RN ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the unit's standards of care. They demonstrate performance aligned with the mission, philosophy, and goals of the unit and organization, treating staff, physicians, patients, and families with consideration and respect.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and records initial assessments, establishes priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
• Systematically re-assesses patients to identify progress and trends that require intervention.
• Develops and implements measurable individualized plans of care within established timeframes.
• Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on facts and evaluations of patient outcomes.
• Participates in health education and discharge planning for patients and significant others.
• Documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs and evaluates the plan of care.
• Utilizes effective communication strategies within the team and delegates unit work assignments appropriately.
• Participates in the orientation of new staff and students on the unit.
• Promotes a positive work environment and collaborates to achieve unit and organizational goals.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current New Mexico RN license or current Compact state license.
• BLS Certification via AHA required.
• Knowledge of current nursing practices appropriate to the patient population served.
• Effective communication skills suitable for the developmental age of patients.
