Respiratory Therapist

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and performing patient transport into and out of the facility as prescribed. Operating with minimal supervision, the Respiratory Therapist evaluates patients and recommends appropriate treatment plans. They are responsible for explaining the purpose and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients and providing necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol, and nebulizer devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods including oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal.
• Monitor patients through oximetry and capnography and perform routine evaluations of chest x-rays.
• Assist with respiratory care procedures such as Bronchoscopy, Perc Trachs, and Chest Tube placement.
• Provide tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Conduct arterial puncture and monitor ventilation efficiency, recording and reporting test results.
• Follow all laboratory testing policies and maintain quality controls and equipment.
• Perform CPR according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Set up and monitor mechanical ventilation, maintaining and operating various ventilatory equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of treatments and patient responses, communicating with attending physicians regarding therapy efficiency.
• Ensure accurate respiratory therapy charging and resolve any data entry errors.

Schedule

This position follows a Day 3x12.0 schedule.

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Relevant certifications in BLS and ACLS.
• Experience with mechanical ventilation and various respiratory therapies.
