Job Description
The Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer independently performs imaging procedures with competence and utilizes independent judgment and technical skill in accordance with applicable standards of practice.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of technical ultrasound procedures, correlating patient history, laboratory data, and physical findings to assist in medical diagnosis under physician supervision.
- Utilize ultrasound instrumentation effectively, demonstrating a strong knowledge of equipment operations, applications, and scanning techniques for optimized image documentation.
- Complete procedures according to established protocols while assisting with invasive procedures as necessary and adhering to universal protocol standards.
- Obtain and document cross-sectional images of anatomy, demonstrating anatomical relationships and ultrasonic characteristics of normal and abnormal tissues.
- Interact effectively with patients and co-workers, exhibiting a high level of caring, dignity, and respect.
- Communicate instructions clearly to patients, explaining procedures to alleviate fears and encourage cooperation.
- Ensure proper coding, tracking, archiving, and interpretation of exams, and accurately enter all related charges.
- Identify patients properly using two identifiers and follow universal protocol during procedures.
- Review patient history and assess physician orders, applying departmental protocols for optimal data acquisition.
- Document patient history in electronic records as required.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by CAAHEP.
- 2 years of experience in the field required.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Compliance with Pennsylvania Acts 31, 33, 34, and 73.
