Respiratory Therapist - Weekend Coverage

This position requires availability for day shifts with a schedule of 2x12-hour shifts over the weekend.

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport within the facility as medically prescribed. This role involves minimal supervision and encompasses evaluating patients to recommend customized treatment plans. The therapist will also educate patients about their treatments and equipment, especially at the time of discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments and operate various ventilatory and aerosol equipment.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Utilize various suctioning methods to care for patients.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography following internal policies.
• Review patients' chest x-rays and perform basic EKGs and arrhythmia recognition.
• Assist with respiratory procedures such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Manage tracheostomy care, including tube insertion and removal.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency.
• Maintain equipment protocols including setup, self-testing, and preventive maintenance.
• Document all treatment information and patient responses accurately.
• Communicate effectively with attending physicians regarding patient therapy efficiency.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Experience in a clinical setting providing respiratory care.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
