Job Description
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides patient care based on standards of care and established policies and procedures under the direction of a licensed nurse. This role involves a wide range of support functions aimed at enhancing patient well-being and safety in a healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, toileting, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collect basic health data as directed by a licensed nurse.
- Prioritize patient care and recognize the need for emergency interventions.
- Respect each patient as an individual, promoting their dignity and self-regard.
- Document all pertinent patient information accurately and timely.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, identifying and removing safety hazards.
- Provide detailed information on assigned patients to the supervising licensed nurse and healthcare team members.
- Participate in educational programs and assist with the orientation of new staff.
- Identify risks to patient safety and opportunities to reduce medical errors.
- Ensure patients are dressed appropriately and well-groomed.
- Transport patients for scheduled tests and activities.
- Monitor patient activity in the Activities Room for overall safety.
- Participate in scheduled patient groups and activities as assigned.
- Assist with ambulation to maintain or improve patients' functional abilities.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- High School Diploma preferred.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification required, or any of the following:
- Minimum of 75 hours in an accredited nursing program including completion of the first rotation.
- Active EMT or Paramedic Certification.
- Active Patient Care Technician/Assistant Certification.
- Active Home Health Aide Certification.
- AHA CPR certification obtained within 60-days of hire.
- Successful completion of a Nurse Aide program or previous Massachusetts CNA licensure for Nurse Aide.
- 1 year of experience working in a long-term care facility preferred.
