Job Description
The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing interventions and patient care plans. The role requires providing patient care based on established standards and protocols while fostering a sense of dignity and positive self-regard in patients.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments and reassessments of patients, implementing appropriate nursing interventions.
- Provide patient and family education based on identified learning needs and readiness to learn.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care and prepare patients/families for discharge.
- Prioritize patient care effectively and delegate nursing tasks as appropriate.
- Document all patient data, assessments, and interventions accurately and timely.
- Identify patients at risk for abuse and initiate safety plans as required.
- Administer medications and intravenous therapy safely according to protocols and physician orders.
- Monitor and interpret vital signs, lab results, and patient responses to treatment.
- Participate in professional development and promote a culture of safety within the workplace.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
- 3-5 years of Emergency Department experience preferred.
- Current Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts.
- ACLS certification upon hire or BLS with ACLS obtained within 60 days of hire.
- AHA PALS certification required within six months of hire.
- Preferred certifications: TNCC, ENPC, and CEN.
