Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed. Within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision, they evaluate patients and recommend appropriate treatment plans. The role involves explaining the purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, and providing necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, and aerosol devices.
• Administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation to patients.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by different methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal).
• Monitor patient oximetry and capnography in accordance with policies.
• Review patients' chest x-rays to assess the need for further evaluation.
• Conduct 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Assist in procedures related to respiratory care, including bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Perform tracheostomy care, including the insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Conduct arterial puncture and record test results accurately.
• Follow all policies and procedures related to laboratory testing and quality control.
• Perform CPR according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Set up, self-test, and maintain all ventilatory equipment while monitoring mechanical ventilation.
• Provide detailed documentation of patient treatments and responses in records and charts.
• Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Valid Respiratory Therapist license required. Additional certifications in BLS and ACLS are preferred.
