Sterile Processing Technician

Schedule

Rotating shifts each week between Tuesday through Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM.

Job Description

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for all steps necessary for the proper decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and packaging of instruments and equipment. This role supports decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and packaging of instruments for various services as workload permits. The technician performs multi-step procedures to effectively reprocess various instruments, including autoclaving, while maintaining compliance with relevant guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble instruments and equipment thoroughly to ensure the removal of debris and bioburdens prior to sterilization.
• Perform and validate cleaning and sterilization procedures according to established protocols.
• Maintain accurate records for all sterilization procedures and monitor results for quality assurance checks.
• Communicate effectively with providers and staff to manage instrument shortages and offer alternatives.
• Verify equipment functionality and initiate requisitions for maintenance, repair, or replacement of defective equipment.
• Assist in training and certification of team members on sterilization processes.
• Perform additional supply handling duties as time permits, including product ordering and inventory management.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
• Certification in Sterile Processing and/or Technology required through either the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HPSA).
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
