Registered Nurse - Surgical Day Care
Job Description
The Registered Nurse for Surgical Day Care will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and patient care plans. This position requires a strong commitment to patient dignity, safety, and education, ensuring effective collaboration and continuity of care.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough nursing assessments and reassessments, planning and implementing care based on standards and established policies.
- Respect each patient as an individual, promoting dignity and self-regard.
- Provide patient and family education based on learning needs and readiness to learn.
- Coordinate discharge plans and prepare patients and their families, incorporating support systems as necessary.
- Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others and prioritize patient care effectively.
- Document all relevant patient data, interventions, and responses according to established standards.
- Perform pre-admission testing and coordinate ancillary testing for patients undergoing day surgery.
- Administer medications and intravenous therapy safely in accordance with physician's orders.
- Provide emotional support to patients undergoing changes due to surgery.
- Initiate post-operative follow-up communication with patients.
Schedule
This position involves a 24-hour shift schedule, including days, evenings, and on-call rotations during weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Minimum one year of acute care nursing experience required; prior experience in Surgical Day Care, Pre-Admission Testing, Endoscopy, or Operating Room preferred.
- Current Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts is required.
- Current ACLS and PALS certifications required; IV certification preferred.
- Proficiency in peripheral IV insertion and nursing assessment is required.
