Job Description

The Utilization Review Nurse will manage patient progression of care, promote evidence-based protocols, ensure the appropriateness of interventions, and expedite care delivery for patients admitted. The role involves directing patient care services to ensure timely and appropriate patient discharge while maintaining high standards of clinical care.

Responsibilities

• Review patient records and evaluate patient progress.
• Monitor the necessity and appropriateness of hospitalization, length of stay, and quality of care.
• Provide Utilization Management (UM) and review functions for patients admitted to various facilities.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop personalized treatment plans.
• Ensure adherence to UM/CM/DCP plans and maintain communication with payers.
• Support clinical improvement activities and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Facilitate educational programs on regulations affecting UM/CM/DCP.
• Perform tumor registry functions for the healthcare system as needed.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
• Active nursing license in Alaska is required.
• Case Management certification by a recognized certifying organization (e.g. NCQA, CCMC) preferred.
• 8 years of clinical care or nursing experience, with at least 3 years in chart review, risk management, or related quality service.
• Knowledge of medical necessity, coding, regulations by The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and other healthcare standards.
