Med/Surg Registered Nurse

Job Description

The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient needs, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient’s episode. The RN specializes in caring for adults, adolescents, and geriatric populations with medical conditions, particularly in a medical/surgical environment.

Responsibilities

• Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of patient care.
• Assesses patient/family needs through active listening and analysis of collected data.
• Develops and implements age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized care plans.
• Collaborates with the healthcare team to set goals and monitor patient progress.
• Promotes the health, safety, and rights of the patient.
• Teaches and delegates tasks relevant to individual education and training.
• Motivates patients and families for continued care and healing post-discharge.
• Engages in self-evaluation and seeks professional development opportunities.
• Creates a healing environment through meaningful connections with patients and families.
• Administers medications and adheres to infection prevention strategies.

Schedule

This position requires a 3x12 shift schedule, including day/night shifts as needed, every other weekend, holidays, and 2 on-call shifts within a 4-week period.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Active New York State RN Licensure
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS (AHA or RQI only), NIHSS
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a Med/Surg environment as a Registered Nurse
