Certified Respiratory Therapist - Nights
Job Description
The Certified Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered per physician, with an emphasis in specialty areas including Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care. Key responsibilities include monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, patient assessment, and understanding ramifications of hemodynamic monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Deliver all Respiratory Care procedures competently as outlined in the department policy manual.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all procedures per department policies.
- Verify Respiratory Care physician's orders and provide complete patient information reflecting current clinical status.
- Participate in department in-services, meetings, and patient care rounds.
- Demonstrate knowledge of respiratory care instruments, performing troubleshooting and effective airway management.
- Assist in orientation/training of new employees, respiratory/nursing students, and precept new employees during orientation.
- Perform arterial blood gas draws and assist in managing ventilator patients.
- Enter daily services and charges into the department's computer system.
- Comply with personal protective equipment requirements and departmental safety protocols.
- Engage in continuous training and education, keeping up with departmental requirements.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Must be a graduate of a COARC approved Respiratory Care Program with the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) Credential.
- BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
- NRP certification required within 6 months of hire.
- At least one year of respiratory experience in a hospital setting preferred.
