Job Description

The Surgical Technologist assists during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field and providing instrumentation as needed to the surgical team. This role contributes to unit activities that assure high levels of quality related to patient care and functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Possess expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and tools to perform invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• Maintain and check all items for proper packaging, processing, and expiration dates, ensuring a safe operating room environment.
• Monitor the sterile field for contamination events and initiate corrective action under supervision.
• Work towards competency in Tier 1 surgical cases.
• Maintain flexibility while contributing to individualized care delivery.
• Communicate effectively with the perioperative team, participating in the Time Out Process.
• Assist in patient transports, room turnovers, and preparation.
• Model professional behavior by staying updated on new technologies and procedures.
• Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Role model principles of a Just Culture.
• Perform other duties as assigned and ensure HIPAA compliance.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
• Licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Must be proficient in computer skills for online learning and forms.
• Must possess strong English language skills including reading, writing, and speaking.
