This is a 13-week contract position.
Schedule
Works 5 out of 6 weekends, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 6 PM to 6:30 AM.
Job Description
Under limited supervision, provides direct patient care, plans, directs, and evaluates total nursing care for Med-Surg patients as directed. Relates effectively with other shifts for continuity of care and maintains satisfactory relations with other departments.
Responsibilities
- Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing nursing functions for patients on the unit, including direct patient care.
- Is resourceful and calm in emergencies, keeping staff informed of patient needs and problems on the unit.
- Utilizes gathered data to determine priorities for patients’ needs in formulating the plan of care.
- Identifies problems and guides personnel to their resolutions.
- Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly.
- Maintains accurate and complete recording and reporting standards.
- Evaluates patient/family responses to the implementation of the care plan and modifies it as necessary.
- Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures.
- Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
- Maintains professional patient confidentiality and displays concern and initiative.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Current Iowa licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- A minimum of 2 years of acute care experience.
- Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
- ACLS certification preferred.
- Mandatory Abuse Reporter Certification within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well.
