Job Description
The Ultrasound Sonographer provides health care services by applying sonic energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. The role involves performing ultrasonic imaging and related procedures in areas such as OB/GYN, abdomen, breast, vascular, and small parts. The sonographer demonstrates anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention at the request of a licensed practitioner while exercising professional judgment and maintaining adherence to medical ethics.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic sonography procedures and corroborate patient's clinical history.
- Prepare patients for procedures by providing instructions to ensure cooperation and minimize anxiety.
- Select and operate ultrasound equipment and associated devices for desired results.
- Position patients and equipment effectively, respecting patient comfort and ability.
- Evaluate images for technical quality and assure proper identification is recorded.
- Verify informed consent and assist licensed practitioners with interventional procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of Universal precautions and provide patient education.
- Contribute to the department's quality assessment and improvement plan.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Associate or bachelor's degree from a CAHEA accredited sonography program or equivalent.
- 2 years of MFM experience.
- OBMI and ARDMS registered US Sonographer certification.
- Current BLS certification.
- CRASE training preferred.
