Job Description
The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse provides direct and individualized nursing care to adult patients before and after surgical procedures. This role involves assessing patient conditions, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The nurse is responsible for responding quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment and initiating the computerized Plan of Care upon admission.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of nursing duties, often transitioning from one task to another efficiently.
- Accept responsibility for the direction, control, and planning of activities.
- Make evaluations and decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria.
- Work independently while recognizing patient confidentiality rights and responsibilities.
- Convey empathy and compassion to patients experiencing pain, grief, or trauma.
- Develop a sense of teamwork and cooperation among colleagues and staff.
- Communicate effectively and therapeutically with individuals from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Incorporate guest relations in daily activities and provide care sensitive to patient age, culture, and psychosocial well-being.
- Support the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in required education programs pertinent to the position.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Required: Current RN license in the State of Oregon; BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- Preferred: BSN, MSN, and certification as a Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN).
- Evidence of continuing education relevant to the skill level and area of practice.
- Previous experience in Medical-Surgical nursing is preferred.
- CRASE training required if the travel assignment extends beyond a 6-month period.
