Job Description
Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Radiologic Technologist performs radiologic procedures for the evaluation of pathological entities as ordered by a physician. The role involves the utilization of independent judgment in determining appropriate radiographic techniques, positioning, and safety practices.
Responsibilities
- Explain examination procedures to patients and prepare them for the examination.
- Review clinical data on requisition and perform appropriate examinations while obtaining patient medical history.
- Prepare the procedure room and replenish stock including linens and related supplies.
- Analyze anatomical structures of the patient, set up equipment, and perform radiologic procedures ensuring proper diagnostic information is obtained.
- May select and administer intravenous contrast media while monitoring patients for possible reactions and providing immediate care if necessary.
- Perform imaging procedures demonstrating radiation protection principles.
- Prepare and set up sterile equipment and supplies for procedures, following infection control practices.
- Complete all necessary documentation in patient records and radiology information systems.
- Resolve image exceptions in PACS to ensure high quality image delivery.
- Participate in teaching and educating new hires and students as required.
- Adhere to department standards for patient care, safety, privacy, and legal rights.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
- Must maintain the required hours of continuous education.
- Must be registered in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) or registry eligible (must obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Healthcare Provider certification required (BCLS).
